This year was my first year of college and I was excited, but to be honest it’s not what I expected.

High school and college are totally different.

Living on an island (Curacao), it's already a different upbringing then living on a land with multiple states and having to sometimes leave home for college.

But here are some tips you must know before starting college.

Tip #1 Don’t have any expectations

Going to a new school it’s easy to assume that it will be the same as the last.

Especially class wise like your classmates.

In my experience, it was the total opposite of my former school. But having a clear mind and thinking like this is actually a new phase in your life.

It gives you a smooth beginning.

Compare to having expectations and having that disappointing feeling.

Tip #2 learn how to be self-supporting

Especially in college being independent in the sense of learning Is important.

cause no one will ask you if you did your homework or if you are finishing the assignment you have to deliver tomorrow.

Some teachers will but they won’t urge you to do so.

In other words, imagine there is a water stream leading to the waterfall pool.

If you want to reach the pool in a certain time frame you must go with the flows of the water stream and that requires concentration, and organization the stream won't stop for you.

And that leads to my last Tip.

Tip #3 PLANNING IS ESSENTIAL

I don’t actually have a problem with planning.

I do it all the time in my planner, my agenda, or even on my laptop.

The only problem I had was actually following the planning!! haha.

And I know I’m not the only one.

Especially in college its necessary because This will help you to be stress-free.

These schools can definitely get overwhelming from time to time by the amount of stuff you need to get done.

But working on time takes some of the pressure off.

Joshua 1:9

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous.

Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Tip #4 Make Friends

Networking, I'm not saying that making friends is the nr 1 focus but take the new opportunity to create a helpful network.

Engage more with other classmates and work together to reach the final.

Create Profesional relationships with teachers to better your opportunities later on in your career.

Overall enjoy the good times, the new experiences everything is a learning experience.
